what is a 'weekend'?

Things this week shall be remembered by:

• uni administration what are you doing why am I taking Swedish (actually, Swedish is quite good, but I wanted German, damnit.)
• internet connection. What, what, what are you doing.
• I seem to have fallen hopelessly in love with Downton Abbey.

I'll have to finish the first season before I actually review it more thoroughly, but right now I'm just flailing over Titanic and costumes and Belle Epoque and Maggie Smith and shiny things everywhere. Also, Matthew Crawley.

J'ai affronté le terrible bureau de l'UFR de suédois ce matin. o/ normalement ça devrait aller et je vais pouvoir m'inscrire, mais j'ai CINQ HEURES de cours par semaine. D: qui donne cinq heures de cours de deuxième langue?

Downton Abbey \o/ It sucked me right in, I watched the entire first season in one sitting, only about two weeks ago. I adore it.

That said, it sucks you in with how pretty it is, gets you emotionally invested in the characters and pairings and then STOMPS ALL OVER YOUR HEART.

Ahahah, same here — except I'm bang in the middle of it. Nearly at the end of the first season, now, and thankfully no hearts have yet been trampled (too badly, anyhow). I find myself deeply, deeply invested in Sybil. (And Matthew, but Matthew is fantastic and requires no explanation.)

Sybil is wonderful. I haven't watched the latest episode yet (been too busy this week), but from the previews it seemed to be quite focused on her and her...well, I don't know how much you've watched exactly, so I won't say anything more :)

I love Mary, too, although I really disliked her to begin with. I find her refreshingly complicated. Also, if you ask me, she's an example of character development done really well. And Matthew, he is perfectly lovely.

The music is gorgeous too, I've had the soundtrack on repeat for the last week.

Her relationship with Branson? I've been spoiled about that. And, well, the way he looks at her and talks to her makes it pretty obvious what'll happen between them, even if I've not gotten that far yet.

I am increasingly happy with Mary as I watch more episodes. She's such a complex, dual character; she's getting really interesting as time goes by, and the more we see her the more her mask cracks, and the more I like her. That moment in your icon is the first time I really, genuinely liked her. I'm more ambivalent about Edith, though I expect that's what they want us to feel... One thing I adore about this series is the way no one is absolutely sympathetic or absolutely antipathetic — they all have flaws, and they all have redeeming qualities, and I love how subtle that is.

(I really need to find that soundtrack. The music is gorgeous.)
